Dangers of making BBQ's out of used Oil Tanks

There are many dangers in using oil tanks for anything else than its intended purpose. If you try and cut into an oil tank with any kind of grinding/cutting tool there could be serious injuries or even cause death. Like the death of the grade 12 student in Ottawa.

The danger is caused by the oil drums not being cleaned properly – people may think that just using soap and water, boiling or steaming will clean them just fine; but vapours can be more flammable then the actual material used in the drum in the first place.  The Occupational Health & Safety Act states that employers must make sure that all drums are drained/cleaned and are otherwise made fee of any explosive/flammable substance before making them into anything different. To see the full act click here.
If you still choose to make an oil drum barbeque or meat smoker make sure that you have the drum cleaned professionally.
